| Tapa is made from the bast of the inner bark of certain species of trees- often the paper mulberry (Broussonetia papyfera), the breadfruit tree (Artocarpus) and the Ficus and Hibiscus families. The bast is pounded into a pulp which is then spread out into thin sheets- often put together into huge sheets from smaller pieces- measuring up to several metres.
