Tapa Idol

Ancestor idols or Kalou yalo are quite rare in Fijian culture but it is thought that they might represent witchs or mythological sorcerers. Most idols that remain are either represent ancestors or deified beings- the Kalou vu. These figures were worshipped in temples called Bure Kalou by a caste of hereditary priests called bete.
